ComScore this weekend released some promising--if not too altogether spectacular--numbers regarding spending this holiday season. According to the company, online spending in the first 41 days of the 2009 holiday season has reached $19.9 billion. That number marks a 3-percent increase of the same time last year.

This Cyber Monday marks the second-heaviest retail spending day on record, after factoring out travel, at $887 million. The day after also made the list at $886 million. ComScore CEO Gian Fulgoni seemed encouraged by the whole thing, stating:
Although this most recent week of holiday shopping did not produce the first $900 million spending day, we saw above average growth rates including a strong end to the week.
